I was born and raised in a small town on the banks of Loch Lomond and before becoming a professional tourist guide I served for 30 years in Strathclyde Police initially on the Isle of Bute and subsequently in the mounted branch in Glasgow.
I qualified as a Blue Badge Scottish Tourist Guide in 2006 after completing the two-year Blue Badge course at Edinburgh University. Since then, I have been involved in many aspects of the tourism industry including the conference & incentive sector and tour management as well as guiding.
In 2008 I was part of a team which travelled to Halifax Nova Scotia in connection with the Round the World Clipper Race to promote Glasgow. Since qualifying I have become a trainer and assessor for the new ‘Blue Badge’ students.
I am also a T-GUIDE (Qualification by the European Federation of Tourist Guide Associations [FEG] and the European Network for Accessible Tourism [ENAT] to guide visitors with learning difficulties). All my tours are as far as is possible client driven.
I am covered by The Scottish Tourist Guides Association insurance for professional indemnity and public liability.
I am a passionate ambassador for Glasgow and Scotland and nothing gives me greater pleasure than to showcase our beautiful country to visitors from around the globe. So, allow me to take you on that journey.
Although not a “Weegie” a native-born Glaswegian, I have lived and worked in the city since 1983 and am passionate about my adopted city, its history, people and culture. Whether it be by “Shanks’s pony” (On foot) or in a motor coach allow me to showcase this wonderful city for you.
I have always had a passion for Scottish history since I was young and being a Blue Badge guide allows me to share that passion with you.
Charles Rennie Mackintosh, he inserted the “K” into his surname in adulthood, the Glasgow born architect and designer whose style was not always popular with his contemporaries has become increasingly better known today.
Why not join me to see some of his iconic buildings such as Queens Cross Church now home to the CRM Society or the wonderful Hill house to name but two and to hear more of the man and his equally talented wife Margaret McDonald.
